Dennis Helsel is an artist and educator who works in both classroom and community settings. His work explores the notion of art practice as a self-designed curriculum in which participants create and define their own educational experiences and outcomes. He has exhibited his work in a number of educational settings including the University of Missouri in Columbia and UMKC in Kansas City. He received his BSE in K-12 Art Education from UCM before earning his MA in Studio Art at UMKC. Helsel was a past resident of the Charlotte Street Foundation’s Urban Culture Project in 2011. Dennis is currently an Elementary Art Educator in the Missouri public school system.
