PLUG Projects is proud to present Personal Space, an exhibition featuring the work of California-based artists Amy Garofano and Cybele Lyle. As the subjects of our first two-person show, Garofano and Lyle display upholstered paintings, prints, photographs and video installation that address the structural nature of personal spaces. Each artist skillfully negotiates possibilities of narrative, space and landscape through architectural references and implied interventions. While Garofano and Lyle may maintain a minimalist hand in their approach, the works in Personal Space reveal intimate and complex reconstructions of fractured realities.
Cybele Lyle is a San Francisco based artist whose installation, video and 2D work reconstructs the architecture and natural environment around her into an alternate vision of interior and exterior space. Cybele graduated from Oberlin College with a BA in Environmental Studies, then went on to get a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts in Printmaking and an MFA in Painting from Hunter College in New York in 2007. cybelelyle.com
Amy Garofano is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. She studies perception by focusing on the relationship between material objects and their shifting contexts. Her forms are borrowed from design and architecture as a way to examine how those fields encode cultural attitudes. She received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2012. amygarofano.com
